Tried turning the general audio down to get rid of the annoying bug I had and the cursor doesn't even match up with it's active click radius. The menus feel really unresponsive, there's arrow indicators that would make you think if you just press the direction it will select for you but that doesn't work. The menus are real bad too.using mkb and having the control scheme set to mkb but in menus (like the weather transition thingy) there's no visual indication that the game acknowledging the option you're highlighting or clicking. There's weird hitches between scene transitions which is just annoying. As soon as the gameplay started I was hit with a disgusting audio bug that just constantly buzzed unless I pulled up a menu. I spent 8 dollars on this game and refunded it after 9 minutes. Who knows, you may end up really liking it despite the mixed feedback. If you have the time and money and are itching for a new JRPG, it’s a pretty decent experience. There are some truly awesome parts of this game and it’s a lot of fun for what it is. With more development time, polish, and a better endgame, it could have easily been a great. It's not perfect but well worth some love. Yes it has its fault and yes the story gets convoluted and doesn't provide answers to all the questions it raises, but I still enjoyed my time with it. I mean when do we ever get a fully fleshed out JRPG that looks on par with Final fantasy in the indie game world? Not a whole lot. Overall, I still think the game is absolutely worth playing for anyone that enjoys JRPGs. There were some puzzles in the early game, but those disappear. There's a completely pointless racing mini-game that only came up once. The game finished and I honestly went "wait, that's it?" There's also not a ton to do outside of progressing the story or completing the few sidequests. There are weird technical glitches with the graphics and sound, and a fair number of bugs that can cause game freezes (thank the gods for autosave). As in, the entire world doesn't appear, or else the camera is placed in a spot where you can see literally nothing. There are a few cutscenes in the game that are just flat out broken. Unfortunately, the game is marred by feeling incomplete. There are also some really awkward parts about it, and there are so many different ideas or narratives that get started, but never wrapped up. The pacing can be incredibly slow at times, but it keeps you wanting to uncover the mysteries of the corrosion and everything else. It starts out generic, but it keeps you invested and has some interesting twists and turns. The story is also pretty great, for the most part. The graphics are at times mundane or outright ugly, but the world is beautiful enough to make up for it, and the added weather system, while useful in combat, also added some cool diversity to different areas. Some of the areas are a bit large and repetitive, but overall it felt like a large, beautiful, fairly open world. The various locales are unique and have a ton of personality and flair. The world itself is rich, vibrant, and exciting. The depth you learn about the characters as the story evolves is awesome. The VA is actually pretty good, with a few truly stellar performances. But the actual character progression is fantastic. Not necessarily the design (though I actually quite like most of the character design outside of Squall. The characters are, in a word, outstanding. The soundtrack complements the game wonderfully. There's a decent amount of strategy involved, and each character has some cool mechanics and unique skillsets. The combat, for a turn-based game, is fairly fun and inventive with a grid system and on-field obstacles offering added depth. It gets much better once you finish the start. The first hour is enough to probably make a lot of people quit. The very beginning of the game is terrible. It is impressive for an indy title and there is a LOT to like about the game. It's pretty fun and the adventure I wish Final Fantasy was. It feels like a budget Final Fantasy XV, but as an experience I consider it to be much more solid than that. It really reminds me of that meme, the whole meme where the children ask if they can "have (X)?" and then the mom explains to them that they already have it. I’d describe this game like a store bought sandwich: it keeps you from being hungry, it wasn’t bad, you don’t really regret it, but it wasn’t memorable.Įdge of Eternity isn't that bad of a game, but it's pretty obvious that it's trying to be a Final Fantasy. What a coincidence! I just finished edging for what felt like an eternity, and I spilled some on my PC! SPAWN CAR DELETES ANY CAR AT GARAGE ENTRANCE A/1! MAKE SURE ITS EMPTY FIRST! In the first 30 seconds of Nico Santos’ album, you listen to… Lena Meyer-Landrut, you is the last German artist to win the European Song Contest. The last three tracks are declared as bonus tracks. The album has 14 songs and a playtime of 45 minutes. Nico Santos – Nico Santos – Track By Track Santos also works as a songwriter and producer as well as as an actor. In 2019, Better, which is part of the 2020 Nico Santos album, made it to the Top 20 in Germany and Austria. The album just peaked on average rankings, but the single Safe sold quite well. The first single of his 2018 debut album Streets of Gold, Rooftop made it to the fifth spot in Germany and Switzerland as well as to the second place in Austria. Thereafter, he had a short career with the US rapper KY before he went solo, publishing his debut single Symphony in 2016. One of his songs, the Spanish Eres Perfecta, surprisingly became viral and was played some 300,000 times soon after publishing. Already at a quite young age, he played on some Spanish festivals, but also toured in Germany and published songs on YouTube. It speaks to the enduring power of friendship, the significance of shared memories, and the desire to keep the spirit of a loved one alive, even when they are no longer physically present. As both of his parents had bands, he was supported in music very early and learned to play the piano from the age of six. Overall, "Walk In Your Shoes" is a heartfelt tribute to a lost friend, capturing the pain of their absence while emphasizing the lasting impact they've had on the narrator's life. They strive to follow the path their friend would have chosen, suggesting a sense of responsibility and loyalty to their memory. The narrator acknowledges that they wouldn't be where they are without their friend's influence and presence in their life. The bridge expresses both gratitude and sorrow. Lighting a candle into the sea each year serves as a symbolic ritual to honor their friend's memory. The distance between those carefree days and the present is emphasized, indicating that the memories feel distant and unattainable. In the second verse, the lyrics reminisce about the carefree days spent together, skipping class and playing songs on the beach. Despite moving on with their life, their bond remains strong, and they envision continuing their shared journey through life together, even if their friend is no longer physically present. The chorus expresses the narrator's longing for their friend's presence and their desire for them to know that they still walk in their shoes, meaning they still carry their friend's influence and memories with them. The friend's parents become a source of support and guidance when the narrator feels lost or overwhelmed. The mention of receiving their friend's Vans from their parents suggests a sense of inheritance or carrying on their memories. While the narrator has experienced personal growth and maturity, their friend remains forever young, possibly implying that they are no longer alive. The pre-chorus reflects on the growth and change that both friends have undergone. The line "They say 'Flames die quicker, the brighter they burn'" suggests that their intense friendship may have had a troubled or passionate aspect, implying that it may have ended abruptly or chaotically. Despite their age, they quickly matured and formed a strong connection. In the first verse, the lyrics describe how the narrator learned important life lessons from their friend at a young age. It tells the story of a deep bond between two friends who grew up together, offering a glimpse into their shared experiences and the impact they had on each other's lives. The song "Walk In Your Shoes" by Nico Santos explores themes of friendship, memories, and loss. Two notes: first, in the second line, if a reader is speaking in pentameter, the odds that they correctly pronounce the word “surfeiting” will be much higher than when they are speaking in prose. Stealing and giving odour! Enough no more: O, it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound, Or, in notation: ˘ ʹ ˘ ʹ ˘ ʹ ˘ ʹ ˘ ʹ An example from “Twelfth Night”Ī great example of almost perfect or “regular” iambic pentameter comes from Duke Orsino’s famous lines at the opening of Twelfth Night: (Usually if there aren’t exactly 10 syllables, there are 11, sometimes 12 it’s rare to find fewer than 10 syllables in a line of pentameter.)įor Shakespeare, the pattern typically is: unstressed stressed unstressed stressed unstressed stressed unstressed stressed unstressed stressed If the line is irregular, there may be fewer or more syllables. If the meter of the line is regular, it will have 5 iambic feet, with 10 syllables in total. The rhythm in which they read should follow the pattern of a heartbeat, or dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN. (You can also do the same exercise with other poets, although their meter may be different Frost, for example, is great for looking at verse!) Whoever is scanning the text should read a single line of verse to himself or herself either in exaggerated pentameter, either silently or out-loud. We believe that the easiest way to learn about meter is by “scanning” a doubled-spaced scene, monologue, or sonnet with a pencil yourself. There are so many wonderful resources about the nuts and bolts of scansion on the internet already that we’ll keep this section relatively brief. More on that in just a few paragraphs! How to scan a text Of course, not all of Shakespeare’s work is written in meter, and much of his metered text contains irregularities, but the irregularities themselves are also instructive. At the very least you’ll end up with a lot of great clues and interesting questions! Even the correct pronunciation of words becomes clearer! As a reader, you can also feel much more confident in your understanding and interpretation of the text after you’ve scanned it scansion removes much, though not all, of guesswork from the process of interpretation. What I mean by that is when the correct syllables are accented, the meaning of an expression shines through organically. Interestingly, iambic pentameter has a fixed pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables, and these natural stresses of the meter actually do a lot of the heavy lifting of interpretation for the reader. When a reader goes through and identifies the stressed and unstressed syllables, they are “scanning” the text or participating in the process of “scansion.” Each line of ten syllables has five metrical “feet,” and each “foot” has two syllables. What exactly do you mean by ‘meter’ and how is learning about it helpful?Īll of Shakespeare’s sonnets and many of his plays are written in what’s called “iambic pentameter,” meaning that these texts are written in rhythmic lines with ten syllables of text in each line (typically, anyway). Ultimately, we hope you’ll find that it’s actually much easier to read verse in meter than not to do so. When Shakespeare’s text is spoken in proper meter, it flows beautifully and the speaker sounds far more fluent, even if nothing else in their relationship to the text has changed. And as with English grammar or organic chemistry, a lot of people would probably prefer to go their entire lives without ever learning about it or encountering it “in the wild.” However, I personally am a strong advocate of the idea that being familiar with meter makes reading Shakespeare much more accessible. Even just a little bit of meter work will further your understanding of the entire text and make you a better, more engaged reader overall! Why read in meter?įor most people, reading and/or teaching Shakespeare is daunting enough without discussion of meter. We’re also hoping to give you some ideas as to how you can easily begin doing your own scansion (metrical analysis). Our primary aim in this post is to give you a sense of how reading Shakespeare in meter can enrich your experience of his plays. There was just too much we wanted to say! (If you missed them earlier, be sure to catch up on Part I and Part II of introducing new readers to Shakespeare.) After writing two other posts on Shakespeare, we realized that we simply needed to dedicate an entire post to a discussion of reading Shakespeare in meter. It is a great way to show parents what their child has been working on in school without overcrowding their take-home folders with worksheets!īelow, I added just a few of the activities included in my Journey's Kindergarten Interactive Notebook. Parents love interactive notebooks, too! They enjoy seeing their child's work at back-to-school night or conferences. I remind my students that even if the current task seems difficult at the moment, they will ultimately master the given skill as they did many other skills in the past. There is nothing more encouraging to a struggling child than to look back at their September activities in their notebook. My favorite aspect about interactive notebooks is that my students are able to go back and look at the amazing progress they've made throughout the year. It can also be used as a reference tool for my students if they need to go back and review information. I'm able to go back an refer to the interactive notebook to show progress throughout the school year. Interactive notebooks are such a great way for me to easily maintain accurate records of my student's abilities without having to file on a daily basis (or be organized, which I'm terrible at). Although the skills are most likely similar to those taught through other programs, I find it useful to have everything in sequential order to make planning and preparing for each week MUCH easier. My store is FILLED with tons of activities aligned with the Kindergarten Journey's program. Incase you've never seen my Teachers Pay Teacher's store, I use the Journey's Reading Program in my classroom. |
